Restoring the orang utans’ habitat
Restoring the orang utans’ habitat
The Friends of the National Parks Foundation (FNPF) is seeking sponsors to help rebuild native forest habitat in Kalimantan (Borneo) in Tanjung Puting National Park and Lamandau Reserve, some the last remaining protected sites containing large populations of Orangutan.
Approximately 65% of Tanjung Puting National Park and 50% of Lamandau Reserve is severely degraded or cleared of forest.
Our approach to reforestation in Kalimantan has been developed over many years, dating back to 1998 when we started work in Tanjung Puting National Park. Each reforestation project is planned over a 3 year time line. Year 1, we create a nursery close to the reforestation site, grow thousands of native saplings, and prepare the planting site. At the end of year 1 / start of year 2, we plant the saplings. After 3 years the saplings are tall and strong enough to survive without regular maintenance. Our approach results in over 70% sapling survival after 3 years.
Please sponsor a hectare. We will give you the google coordinates, erect a plaque with your name (individual or organisation), and send you annual updates of planting activity and tree survival rates. Or sponsor 10 Trees.
