Suffering together

To a young boy suffering form celebral palsy, hugging an infant orang utan made all the difference to his world. The Book of Daniel was this week’s Australia Story.
It’s an inspirational journey of two brothers, Daniel and William who have raised over $600,000 since they first visited Borneo when they were young boys. Now
15 and 13 years of age, they have produced a book – The Book of Daniel – based on their visit to Borneo where they saw with their own eyes the burning of orang utan habitats and the orphaned babies who remain locked in cages for their own safety. It’s an extraordinary story of a two young men and their quest to save orang utans. As Daniel says: “Going to Borneo was one of the best moments of my life. I got my chance to make a difference, to save orang utans.” One image sticks in my mind – a female orang utan that chooses to sit between the two brothers and hold Daniel’s hand. If things don’t change now, Daniel, his brother and thousands of other people will never be able to enjoy this unique experience.
