Protecting a magnificent creature

Did you know that orang utans are often killed by local farmers, palm oil plantation staff, mining, illegal loggers as they are considered pests.
It’s unbelievable that in this day and age when we should be protecting what we have left of the species of the world, there are people murdering these extraordinary animals.
That’s why the Friends of the National Parks Foundation (www.fnpf.org) has been working tirelessly to educate these individuals about orang utans and their need to survive and flourish.
FNPF actively rescues orang utans from surrounding farms and palm oil plantations and relocates them to the safety of protected areas. They have reforestation projects to rebuild native habitat (see previous blog).
Their aim is to create corridors connecting patches of forests to each other to enable these magnificent creatures to travel safely from one area to another.
So next time you go into the supermarket, you can help, by checking out the product label of the item you choose on the supermarket shelf to ensure it doesn’t contain any palm oil. As consumers we can make a difference. Make your difference now.
